Last change: 09.05.2025 u 14:44

Students are entitled to free travel on the basis of the HŽ Putnički prijevoz smart card. Before starting primary school, children have the right to travel free of charge with an identification document stating their date of birth.

Students who have a smart card do not need to create a new one, instead, they should come to the ticket office with a certificate from an educational institution and pay 2.65 euros for a profile/annual ticket for the whole year.

To create a smart card, you will need:

  • a request to create a smart card that you can download here
  • a certificate from an educational institution (physical or e-certification)
  • a 3x3.5 cm colour photo not older than one year
  • a payment of €2.65 for profile/annual ticket.

In the event that you send a request by e-mail, it is also necessary to send a payment confirmation in the amount of €2.65 to IBAN HR9523400091510252920, the purpose of the payment (children and students free of charge - name and surname), model HR00, and under the reference number it is necessary to specify the date of payment, after which you will be informed about the place of collection of the smart card.

You can submit your request and photo via mail besplatno.djeca@hzpp.hr, by mail or submit it at a ticket office. Look for the nearest ticket office.

The request to create the card is sent to one of the following addresses:

  • Regional unit Zagreb, Trg Ante Starčevića 1, 10 000 Zagreb
  • Regional unit Vinkovci, Ante Starčevića 79, 32 100 Vinkovci
  • Regional unit Split, Obala kneza Domagoja 8, 21 000 Split

The Government of the Republic of Croatia adopted a Conclusion on the continuation of the implementation of the project of free public railway transport for children and students of primary and secondary schools in the Republic of Croatia until 31 December 2025.

The project covers unlimited daily train journeys from the place of residence to the place of education and occasional trips, such as day trips, visits to the doctor, holidays and other trips, in the 2nd class of regular trains in local and intercity transport.

Further implementation of the project will contribute to an additional increase in the mobility of children and students, improving citizens’ standard of living and encouraging the use of railway transport.

In addition to the investment cycle to the renewal of railway infrastructure and the procurement of new trains co-financed by EU funds, the continuation of the implementation of this project has a positive impact on increasing the use and sustainability of railway transport, which also contributes to reducing the adverse environmental impacts of transport.
